Norma Gail (Miller) Lawrence of Canton, died Tuesday, February 14 at Fletcher-Allen Hospital in Burlington VT. She died of heart failure. Norma was born in Ballston Spa, on June 14, 1944, the daughter of Erwin H. and Ruth N. (Melander) Miller. Her education began in Burnt Hills Elementary School; graduated from Vestal Central High School in Vestal, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. Norma worked for General Electric in Schenectady and Utica and worked part time for the Village of Canton.
Norma married the love of her life Kendall G. Lawrence on September 16, 1972. Together they raised their incredible son Nathan and she deeply loved her daughter-in-law Sarah and beloved granddaughters Morgan and Mackenzie Lawrence. These have been the light of her life as devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She cherished living in Canton and raising her family in a community full of close friends with the same values and character that she held so dear. Norma loved her family and loved St. Lawrence hockey! She loved music, loved her wonderful pets (Dora Rose Lawrence), she accompanied Ken to games, served at FFA fund raisers, hunting trips, travel, musical concerts, and annual family vacations. She loved nature like her father. She enjoyed walks in the woods, kayaking, making donuts for the sugar house, fishing, and spending time with family and friends at Black Lake. Norma also had her NY State small water plant license for the Woodmere Community Water System.
Norma is also survived by her beloved family, one sister, Shirley (Jeff) Riley; and one brother, Alan (Darlene) Miller; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Lorraine (Mel) Barlow, Cindy (Gordon Lougee) Lawrence; several nieces and nephews; as well as numerous close friends. She will be dearly missed by us all.
