BRASHER FALLS – With heavy hearts the family of Michael V. LaVare, age 70, announce his passing on Tuesday (December 27, 2022) at his home with the love of his family at his side.
Mike was born on September 1, 1952, in Massena, the son of Vernon and Margaret (Cole) LaVare.
He graduated from Salmon River High School in 1971.
On June 26, 1976, Mike joined in marriage with Vanessa M. Cook.
Throughout life’s challenges Vanessa was always the girl who captured Mike’s heart and put a sparkle in his eye.
Mike began working at the Spano Railroad Cleaning Company, where he was a supervisor for 5 years.
Later retiring from the St. Lawrence County Conservation Department after 21 years of service in 2009.
He had a love for horses and at one time was involved in barrel racing them.
Mike later became an avid coon hunter and raised bluetick hounds.
Many of his family members will be able to enjoy hand made projects as he was very crafty with wood.
He made many cabinets, toy boxes, cribs and picture frames.
Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife Vanessa, his mother Margaret LaVare of Bombay, his daughter Catina and her companion (Charles Foster) of Brasher, and his son Alex (Jennifer) LaVare of Winthrop.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Connor, Cayne, Cash, Latona, Zander, Draidyn, and Taze.
His siblings Debbie (Tim) Premo of Brasher Falls, Rick (Brenda) of Brasher Falls, Vernon “Joe” LaVare of Helena, Julie (Pat) Shorette of Helena, Robin (Tammy) LaVare of Bombay, Cathy (Brian) Stowell of Brasher, Missy Compo of Constable, Mindy LaVare and her companion Dave Montgomery of Brasher Falls, and Bill LaVare of Brasher Falls survive him.
Also surviving him are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his father Vernon who passed away October 7, 2016.
A time of visitation will be held Friday (Dec. 30th) from 4-8 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Funeral Services will commence Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Mike’s honor may be made to one’s local Parkinson’s Foundation.
