Michael E. Matthys passed away July 11, 2013 after a battle with Ocular Melanoma.
Michael was born on November 19, 1962 in Ellsworth, Maine.
Son of Sharon and Tex Matthys, he graduated from Potsdam High School in 1981.
Michael married DeeDee Kates on October 9, 1999 in Eagle Rock, California. Along with his wife, Michael is survived by his two children: Leah Christine (11), Daniel John (9); mother: Sharon Matthys and siblings: Shelley (Brian) Stagnitti and their 3 children Nick, Alyssa and Lauren; Donna Matthys and her son Jason.
After graduation from high school Michael attended Fredonia State University where he was an active member of the radio station, WCVF. After graduation he joined the Navy where he served six years in the Nuclear Division. At the outbreak of the first Gulf War, his carrier, the USS Eisenhower was one of the first to reach the area.
After the Navy, he relocated to Los Angelos and entered the entertainment industry. For the last 18 years he has worked at Warner Brothers as a sound editor in Motion Picture Imaging.
Michael was a lifelong fan of music, movies, and sports and shared his joy with his friends and family.
He was especially proud of his two children, Leah and Daniel as well as his close knit family.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you consider a donation to the Cancer Support Community of Pasadena.
There will be a celebration of life for Michael on October 20th at the Potsdam Elks Lodge from 1-4 p.m. with snacks and a cash bar.
