Mary R. Burnett, age 78, of Moira, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at home surrounded by her family and under the care of North Country Hospice. She was born on May 5, 1932 in Moira, the daughter of the late George and Nora (LaFave) White. Mary attended Moira Country School. She was retired from the Brushton Moira Central School with over 30 years of dedicated services in the cafeteria.
Mary was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Non-Teachers Assoc., Wednesday Night Women’s Bowling League, and past Grand Marshall of the 2009 Moira Heritage Days. In her free time, Mrs. Burnett loved to bake pies and was a supporter of the Moira Volunteer Fire Dept having helped cook at numerous functions. She was united in Marriage on February 22, 1951 to Loren Burnett in St. Mary’s Church, Brushton, NY with Rev. A.J. O’Brien officiating.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Loren Burnett; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Patti Burnett of Defiance, OH and Marty and Connie Burnett of Moira; grandchildren Matthew and (Alisha) Burnett of Syracuse, Michael and Julisha Burnett of St. Petersburg, FL, Jeffrey and Sandra Burnett of Brandon, FL and Preston and Pierson Burnett of Moira; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Janet White of Rochester, and Lawrence and Betty White of Rochester; sisters Shirley Jock of Wolcott, Beverly White of Rochester, and Rosetta Franks of Texarkana, TX; sisters-in-law, Norma Kimball of Massena, and Elaine Bordeau of Brewster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, George and Nora LaFave White; sisters Elizabeth Jock and Beatrice Mayville; and brothers, Eli White, Francis White, Levi White Sr. and Andrew White.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at St. Ann’s Church St. Regis Falls, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Alfred H. Fish officiating. Spring Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Brushton.
