Funeral services for Mary Hess, age 78, of Chase Mills, will be held on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Frary Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Frary Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Hess passed away on August 29, 2011 at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT.
Mrs. Hess is survived by three daughters, Mary Hawkins and her husband Kevin of Chase Mills, Anne Marie Moulton and her husband William of Melbourne, FL and Helen Margaret Spring and her husband Greg of Potsdam; four sons, William Hess and his wife Cindy of Colorado, Timothy Hess of Chase Mills, Howard Hess and his wife Sherri of Ogdensburg and Thomas Hess and his companion Rene Bell of Ogdensburg; a son in law, William Lenhart; and thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Katherine Lenhart in 2010; two brothers, Michael and John Stark; and three sisters, Eleanor Ladoucer, Margaret Carter and Sally VanPatten.
Mrs. Hess was born on October 6, 1932 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Marion and Frances (Kiah) Stark. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. At one time, she worked at Grants Department Store and P&C. She and her husband later operated Jenk’s Tavern. She married William Hess on June 14, 1952 at Notre Dame Church with Rev. A.D. Charbonneau officiating. Mr. Hess passed away in 1999.
Mrs. Hess enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and doing puzzles.
