MASSENA -- Martina A. Kennedy, age 89, passed away Monday afternoon, November 13, 2023.
Martina was born on August 28, 1934, to Petrus and Petronella (Smits) Bouwmans in Uden, Netherlands.
Martina was one of 12 children and later married Neil Kennedy on October 3, 1961.
Martina was a homemaker and worked on the Board of Elections for many years.
Martina and Neil moved many years while Neil was in the service and finally settled in Massena, NY as their forever home.
Later when Neil retired from Reynolds, they were lucky enough to split time in Zephyrhills, Florida, and Massena.
Martina is survived by her three daughters, Betty (Karl) Booth of Massena, Patricia Kennedy of Massena, and Mary (Jeff) Bonno of West Potsdam; four grandchildren, Steven (Bethany) Booth, Kevin Booth, Christopher (Madelyn Reed) and Hailey (Jerry Robar). Martina is also survived by a sister, Petronella (Nelly) and Brother Petrus (Piet) both of the Netherlands
Martina is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Neil. Her parents and siblings, Geradus, Adriana, Henricus, Franciscus, Lamberta, Antonia, Gerardina, Wilhelmina, Petrus, and Maria, all of the Netherlands.
As per her wish, services will be private for the family at St. Mary’s Church, Massena.
Memorial contributions in Martina’s memory may be made to the Potsdam Humane Society.
Her children would like to thank the staff on the first floor at Massena Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care they gave her and the extreme kindness they showed to the family during her time there.
