Mark S. Oakes, 58, of Sweet Flag Estates, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 17, at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since December 8.
Mark was born September 25, 1952, in Syracuse, the son of Gabriel and Edna Oakes. He was a graduate of Salmon River Central School. He was a Wolf Clan member. Until its closure, Mark worked for the Marcellus Casket Company in Syracuse. He enjoyed reading and traveling.
He is survived by his four sisters and a brother-in-law, Denise and Ted Leaf of Cornwall Island, Michelle Oakes of Nedrow, Roxanne Oakes of Akwesasne, and Gabrielle Oakes of Cornwall; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Suzanne Oakes of Boston; Gary and Jesse Oakes, both of Racquette Point; Gabriel Jr. and Stacey Oakes and Morris and Leah Oakes, all of Akwesasne; his step father, Lucien “Pete” Ayotte of Rooseveltown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Jesse.
Friends may call Saturday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. He will be transferred to the Kanienkehaka Kanonsesneh, Sunday 11 a.m., where friends may call until Monday 11 a.m., when funeral services will be held. Cremation will follow.
