Funeral services for Marie T. Dowdle, 88, of Madrid will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Madrid, with Rev. Msgr. Robert Lawler presiding. Friends and family may call on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 2-6 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 20 Church St. in Madrid. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring. Marie passed away on Dec. 29, 2010 at St. Josephs Home in Ogdensburg, where she had resided since December 31, 2008.

Marie is survived by three sons and one daughter in-law, James T. of Potsdam, John S. of Madrid, and William J. and wife Leesa of Watertown; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Emma Robillard of Ogdensburg; a sister, Sr. Mary Henrita of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sister-in-laws, Eileen LaGasse of Schenectady and Luella McHarg of Albany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Msgr. Thomas Robillard in March 2009, Patrick Robillard in March 2010 and James Robillard in October 1980.

Born February 6, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Revell) Robillard.

She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Ogdensburg, in 1942.

She then worked for a time at the J.J. Newberry and Woolworth stores in Ogdensburg. She then worked as a telephone operator in Ogdensburg from 1943-1960.

She married James V. Dowdle on June 30, 1956 at St. Mary's Cathedral, with her brother Msgr. Thomas Robillard officiating. They then moved to the family farm in Madrid. James predeceased her on April 11, 1992.

Marie was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Madrid where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She taught religion education classes at the church for 35 years.

Marie was also a foster parent for many years.
