Marie Florence Devonshire, age 90, of South Colton, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at her home in the town of Colton with her family. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam. Condolences online can be sent at www.garnerfh.com.
Marie was born September 20, 1920 to Ortho D. Outen and Florence H. Savage in Delaware County Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, she attended God’s Bible College in Maryland to become a missionary. On February 11, 1940, she was joined in marriage with Edward T. Devonshire Jr., who was in the U.S. Navy, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Marie had six children, Lois M. Lafferty of Chesterfield, VA, Joyce A. Tange who preceded her in death, Doris A. Watson of South Colton, Edward T. Devonshire III of Palmdale, FL, Carol Beeks of Goldendale, WA and David A. Devonshire of Huntsville, AL.
She was a homemaker, waitress and a professional show dog groomer during her life. She was a devout Christian and in her younger years very active in the Easter Star. After her husband’s death in 1993 she went to live with her daughter Doris A. Watson and a son-in-law, Ronald L. Watson in South Colton, who lovingly cared for her until her passing. She is survived by three daughters, Lois M. Lafferty, Doris A. Watson and Carol L. Beeks; two sons, Edward T. Devonshire III and David A. Devonshire; along with sixteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.
As per her wishes no calling hours or funeral services will be held. Donations may be made in her name to the Colton and South Colton Rescue Squads.
