Margaret A. Fowler, 87, formerly of Oxbow

Margaret A. Fowler, 87, of Castleton, VT, formerly of Oxbow, died Dec 6th, 2010 in Rutland, VT, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Fowler was born in Gouverneur on March 13, 1923, the daughter of Carl and Rose (Pitre) Hart. She graduated from Gouverneur schools. She was employed by the Borden Cheese Factory in Gouverneur and the Rushmore Paper Mill in Natural Dam. Margaret married Edgar A. Fowler on Aug. 2, 1942 in Gouverneur.

Margaret was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6338 in Gouverneur and helped form the Oxbow recreation program where she was a member for 6 years. She was the former president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oxbow Vol. Fire Dept.

She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and her flower gardens.

Surviving are sons Kerry Fowler and wife Susan of Castleton VT, and Dennis Fowler and wife Mary of Plattsburgh; her sister, Frances Wells of Hailesboro; eight grandchildren, David Jr., Daniel, Michael, Scott, Dodi, Robert, Dennis II, and Dana; five great grandchildren, Shyanne, Kristen, Griffin, Mary Elizabeth, and Bryona; a great great grandchild, Alyza; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar A. Fowler; a son, David E. Fowler; a sister, Catherine Alguire; and a grandson, Dusty Fowler.

Calling hours will be Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 33 Park Street, Gouverneur. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday with Fr. Stephen Rocker, pastor of St. James Catholic Church officiating and burial will follow in Oxbow Cemetery.
