Mae M. Shattuck, 92, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Kinney Nursing Home in Gouverneur. Calling hours are today, Tuesday, July 26th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Dr. Richard Mayforth, pastor of the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Mae was born May 19, 1919 in Colton, the daughter of Morton and Edna Somes Laundry. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and received a certificate in commercial art design. Mae had worked as a layout artist for many years for the Gouverneur Tribune Press and Kinney Drugs. Mae married M. Gilbert Shattuck on August 28, 1941 in Gouverneur. Mr. Shattuck passed away December 18, 2009.
Mrs. Shattuck was a member of the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church where she had served as a deacon and elder. She enjoyed artistry and painting, especially acrylics and watercolor, needlepoint, canning vegetables, and fishing, especially deep sea fishing.
Mae is survived by two daughters, Judith and Thomas Leithner of Amherst and Jeannie Cass of Nottingham, PA; three grandchildren and a great grandchild; and a brother, Trent Laundre' of Coldwater, Mississippi.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and a sister Eugenia Auborn.
