Madeline M. McCartha, 88, a 41-year resident of Dover Plains, and formerly of Governeur, died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at her home. Mrs. McCartha was a food service supervisor at Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic for over 20 years retiring in 1982.
Born on October 5, 1922, in Newton Falls, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Adelia McEathron.
On December 31, 1942 in Governeur, she married Patrick N. McCartha who survives at home. In addition to raising their three children, Madeline and her husband also helped raised two of her siblings, John and Muriel. She was a past member of J. H. Ketcham Hose Co. Auxiliary in Dover Plains. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family at home and at Lake Bonaparte, New York. She and her family shared many enjoyable memories and meals at both places.
Besides her husband of 67 years, she is survived by a daughter, Donna Craft and her husband, Howard, of Dover Plains; two sons, Tommy L. McCartha and his wife, Diana of Bullville, and Patrick McCartha and his wife, Carol, of St. David, AZ; two brothers, Everett "John" McEathron of Dover Plains, and Daniel "Art" McEathron of Monticello, FL; a sister-daughter, Muriel "Tootie" Disco of Watertown, and her children, Mike, Jeff, Jay and Debbie Disco; five grandchildren, Scott D. Conklin and Robin Petty, of Dover Plains, Brad J. Conklin and his wife, Melissa, of Dover Plains, Jamie L. Kahn and her husband, Eric, of Bloomingburg, Shawn P. McCartha and Kelly McCartha of St. David, AZ; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler J. Conklin, Alexis M. Barton, Logan Conklin, Patrick McCartha, Ashlynn McCartha, Ayden McCartha and Nicholas Kahn. In addition her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Herbert, Harold and Robert “Bob” McEathron and two sisters, Maude L. Finley and Bessy H. Stevens.
