Lyle Martin Haggett, 91, of Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Norwood, passed away October 3 at Westminster Manor in Bradenton where he had been a resident for several weeks.
Mr. Haggett was born July 15, 1919 in Louisville, N.Y., the son of the late Charles R. and Hattie M. Hosmer Haggett. He graduated from Waddington High School. Mr. Haggett worked at the Aluminum Company of America plant in Massena, worked construction on the St. Lawrence Power Project, at the General Motors Chevrolet plant and at the New York Power Authority St. Lawrence-FDR project where he retired in 1981.
He married Elizabeth “Betty” Gay O’Connor of Massena on Aug. 28, 1943 at the Massena United Methodist Church. She pre-deceased him in 1998. He then married Dorothy Warren of Bradenton on July 10, 2000.
Lyle and Betty Haggett lived in Massena until 1955 when the family moved to Norwood. There, Lyle and Betty were very active in the United Methodist Church and in the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Lodges. In retirement, Lyle continued as a member of the Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs both with Betty and Dorothy.
Lyle Martin Haggett is survived by his wife Dorothy, four sons Terry, of Fairport, N.Y.; Wayne of Avon Lake, Ohio; William of Rensselaer and Paul of Massena; and a daughter, Phyllis Oetinger of Hilton, NY., three brothers; Leslie, Charles and Reginald of California and one sister, Irene also of California. Survivors also include 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his first wife Betty, a brother, Vernon and two sisters, Olive and Katherine, died before him.
A memorial service will be arranged for a later time at the convenience of the family.
