Luella M. Stevens, 79, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Luella was born October 18, 1931 in Hermon, the daughter of Arthur and Florence Strate Forbes. Luella grew up and attended school in the Hermon area. She worked as a chamber maid for twenty-nine years at Edgewood Resort in Alexandria Bay
Luella married Gerald R. Stevens on April 2, 1949. The couple has resided in their Antwerp home since 1971. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, dancing, and spending time with her children and their children.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; a son, Dwayne Stevens of Antwerp; five daughters, Joyce Slate of Philadelphia, Barbara and Tom Dalton of Evans Mills, Laurie and Russell Monica of Theresa, Beverly and Gary Benedict of Hannibal, and Carol and Mike Hicks of Elmira; 17 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Davenport of Philadelphia, and Thelma Briggs of Hermon; and several nieces and nephews.
Luella was predeceased by a brother, Vernon Forbes; a sister, Nancy Goodale; and a granddaughter, Bridget Dalton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16th at 1:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with her nephew Rev. John A. Peabody, Jr., pastor of Pilgrim Holiness Church, Syracuse officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are today, Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
