Lucille “Lucy” Ward, 59, 92 Christine Lane, Akwesasne, passed away Saturday Morning, July 23, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends by her side.
Lucy was born September 23, 1951 in Akwesasne, the daughter of the late Angus and Mildred Ransom Bero. She graduated from Salmon River School in 1970. After graduation, she attended the Business School of Massena.
On June 1, 1985, she married Robert T. Ward Sr. in Rochester.
She first worked for Kodak in Rochester for many years. Upon her return to the reservation she worked for the St. Regis Mohawk Police Department as the office manager. She also owned and operated Lucy’s Santa Clara Lodge in St. Regis Falls for many years.
Lucy’s favorite past time was going to the Bingo Palace. She considered the members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department as her extended family and they held a special place in her heart. Lucy enjoyed being with her family and friends. Her friends were always special to her.
Lucy is survived by her loving husband, Robert; two daughters, Jennifer and William Brown and Melissa Ward, both of Akwesasne; a grandson Tyson; four sisters, Eleanor Ransom, Loretta and Greg Benedict, Ann Bero, all of Akwesasne, and Connie and Jerry Thompson of Cornwall Island; three brothers, Allen, Walter and Geraldine, and Carl, all from Akwesasne; a sister-in-law, Doris Bero, St. Regis, Quebec; and two brother-in-laws, Marvin and Alden Ward.
She was predeceased by her Father, Angus Bero on Nov. 16, 1982, her mother Mildred Ransom Bero on Sept. 3, 2008, a son Robert T. Ward Jr. on June 11, 2007; two brothers, Andrew Bero on Juen 12, 2011 and Gerald Bero on Oct. 22, 1987; a sister, Genevieve Bero on June 8, 1962; a sister-in-law, Sharon Ward on Dec. 7, /2007 and a brother-in-law, Thomas Ransom in June 19, 1986.
Friends may call Sunday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. Tentivelly, there will be a funeral services on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the St. Regis Catholic Church. Burial will follow the services at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hogansburg.
