Lois Margaret Caswell, 97, died December 10, 2010 at home on School Street while under the care of her family and Hospice.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the DeKalb Jct. United Methodist Church with Pastor Calvin Burrell of Denver, Colorado officiating. Burial will be in Beech Plains Cemetery in West Pierrepont.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, Nelson Caswell of Oregon, Hope (LeRoy) Dais of Colorado, Cecyl (Elden) Fischer of Michigan, Norman (Linda) Caswell of Michigan, Marjorie (John) Frary of DeKalb Jct., Timothy (Judy) Caswell of Michigan, and one daughter-in-law Dena (Malcolm) Caswell of Canton; 20 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Fulton of 62 years, one son, Malcolm, one grandchild, Michael; two sisters, a stepbrother, and stepsister.
Born June 14, 1913 in Hammond, daughter of Fred and Grace (Pickert) Levya, she graduated Governeur High School in 1930 and Albany Business College in 1931.
She married Fulton Caswell on August 26, 1932 in Salem, West Virginia. They raised their seven children in the West Pierrepont area.
Lois served as girls’ dean and cook at Spring Vale Academy in Michigan in 1963 and ‘64. Later, until retirement, she served as secretary in the Science and English Dept. at Canton A.T. I.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of God (Seventh Day), a member of the Beech Plains Ladies Aide, taught sewing and cooking in Paradise Valley 4-H, taught her children piano, and gave accordion lessons in surrounding communities.
Lois’ hobbies and interests included Scrabble, word puzzles, shuffleboard and watching Westerns. She belonged to bowling leagues at Gray Lanes in Canton, and in Zephyr Hills, Florida, where she and Fulton spent many winters. She was an avid reader and was well-known for her quilting.
