MASSENA – Mr. A. Lawrence “Larry” Levac, 89, of Bayley Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 20, 2013 after a short illness at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and John Luhr in Baldwinsville.
Larry was born March 31, 1924 in Massena, the son of the late Calise and Alice Brodeur Levac. He attended Massena schools before entering the US Army, where he served during World War II with the 838th Anti-Aircraft Artillery. While in the Army stationed in France, he met and married Isabelle Jean Calabrese on March 23, 1946.
Larry worked at ALCOA for 42 years, retiring as a foreman in 1986. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, where was volunteer driver for many years. He a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Joseph’s Parish and was a bingo caller at St. Joseph’s for many years. He enjoyed carpentry and working with wood.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Isabelle Jean; his three daughters, Barbara Johnson-Levac and her husband, Darryl of Washington, DC; Patricia Luhr and her husband, John of Baldwinsville; and Sandra Froio of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Kim Fenton, James Froio, Summer Costello, and Nicole Curran; and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lorraine Doud of Louisville; Annette and Richard Rombough of Massena; his brother, Lionel Levac of Grand Coulee, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, David L. Levac on August 14, 2002; three brothers, Ilis “Eddy”, Richard, and Joseph Levac; and 4 sisters, Faye Guay, Anita Mere, Electa Bodway, and Romaine Duranceau.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 100 N. Main St. Massena, Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Scott D. Fobare, celebrating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
