Lawrence Dale Greene, 78, of Lisbon, passed away on June 30, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Interment will be in Madrid Cemetery.
Surviving Dale as his is fondly known as by family and friends, is his wife Ruth; daughters, Laura Michaud of Central Square, Melanie Demis of LaPorte, IN, Carrie and husband Tom Rutherford of Madrid, and Catherine and husband Brian Thomas of S. Colton; sons Lawrence and companion Tricia Adams of Independence, MO, Steven and wife Lucy of Manassas, VA, and Anthony of Syracuse; 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Danny Demis; brothers Edward, Howard, and Kenneth; and sisters, Frances Loomis Eastland, Roberta Wilcox, Emily Lawrence, and Eleanor Lewis.
Dale was born on April 2, 1933 in Cherry Plain, the son of Franklin O. and Carrie (Reynolds) Greene. He graduated from South Otselic Central School and proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1957. He married Louise Ruth Beckwith in 1953 in Norwich. He and his wife moved to the North Country in 1957 to work on the Seaway until completion and went to work at Central Foundry and retired in 1993. Dale was a member of the South Colton Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, where he served as captain for many years. Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed playing guitar on his porch with his friends.
