GOUVERNEUR -- Kevin Kip Matott, 45, of 159 River Road, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Gouverneur Hospital after surviving a tragic fire at his home on January 5, 2019.
Kip was born on January 5, 1974, in Potsdam, son of Lynne Haskins Matott and the late David Matott. He graduated from Canton Central School and he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from SUNY Potsdam. He was blessed with a daughter, Kara Marie, from his marriage to Amanda Jenks which ended in divorce.
Kip excelled at mathematics and pursued complex theories of astrophysics. In addition he was a prolific artist, working in oil and acrylic painting, linoleum block printing, drawing, bookbinding and papermaking. Kip was a New York Yankees fan who enjoyed watching professional baseball, hockey, and football. He also enjoyed being with his family, fishing, and listening to death metal music.
Kip is survived by his daughter, Kara Marie Matott; his mother, Lynne Matott of Gouverneur; his sister, Jennifer Matott of Gouverneur; and four brothers, Paul Matott of Potsdam; Loren Shawn Matott of East Aurora, NY; Drew Matott of Hamburg, Germany; and Scott Matott of Elmhurst, IL; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kip was predeceased by his father, David Matott on May 5, 1981 and his brother Anthony Matott on October 12, 2001.
