Joseph P. Kish, 91, of Jefferson Ave. passed away on December 12, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born on May 22, 1920 in Massena the son of John and Rose (Mandish) Kish.

Joe graduated from Massena High School and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1946. On May 2, 1942 he married Blanche E. Sullivan at St. James Church in Gouverneur. Mrs. Kish predeceased him on June 29, 2007. Joe worked at Alcoa in the Mechanical Department for 43 years.

After his retirement Joe worked for the Phillips Memorial Home as a part time driver for over 20 years. Joe was a member of the 25 Year Club at Alcoa, past member of McCavanaugh Hunting Club, 61 year member of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department and Past Chief and member of the VFW Post # 1143. He loved gardening and enjoyed his Blue Mountain cabin, where he could cut wood and hunt.

Joe is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Kish of Omaha, NE who was his primary caregiver for the past year; his loving son Joseph P. Kish Jr. of Massena; grandchildren Josie and husband Aaron Hardy and Jeremy; three great grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Kish of Winthrop; sisters Margaret Dunbar of Massena and Valeria Servage of New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by a grandson, Joseph III; a brother, John; and sisters Helen in infancy and Anna Aiken.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday December 14, 2011 at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. The Massena Volunteer Fireman will pay their respects Thursday at 7:15 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday December 15, 2011 at St. Mary's Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to the Joseph & Blanche Kish Endowed Scholarship Fund, C/O Marian High School 7400 Military Ave. Omaha, NE 68134.
