Joseph Edward Hooper, age 28, of Watertown, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Watertown.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Henry Schick of the River of Life Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Antwerp. He will be interred near his Grandmother Inez Rose, who passed away on April 17th and with whom he shared a special bond.
Joseph was born on October 26, 1982 in Potsdam, to John E. Hooper and Kathleen D. Rose. He graduated from General Brown Central School in 2001. He married Jessica Baker on March 17th 2006. The marriage ended in divorce. He entered into the United States Army in 2006 and served until he was honorably discharged in 2011. His military service included two deployments in Iraq with the 3rd Infantry Division out of Ft. Stewart, GA. He received a Combat Action Badge, Army Achievement Medals, and other awards for his service to his country.
Joseph loved animals, especially reptiles, the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, Kurt Vonnegut, and Philip Dick, music, his girlfriend Joi, and most of all, his daughter Emerald.
Joseph is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kathleen D. Rose-Gray and Jim Gray of Watertown; his father, John E. Hooper; a daughter, Emerald Rose Hooper of Watertown; a brother, Andrew Hooper of Watertown; a sister, Rebecca Gray of Watertown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
