John Thomas “Tom” Coyle, 83, formerly of Potsdam

Graveside committal services for 83-year old Mr. John Thomas "Tom" Coyle will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill cemetery in Parishville with Msgr. Robert Aucoin officiating. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam. Mr. Coyle died August 7, 2010 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. He was a former resident of Potsdam.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann (Williams) Coyle of Potsdam; two sons, John Thomas Coyle, II of Bristle, RI, and Paul R. Coyle of Chase Mills; three daughters, Kathy Ann Coyle of Naples, FL, Mary R. Coyle of Potsdam, and Georgia F. Coyle of Parishville; and several grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

He was born in Albany, June 4, 1927 the son of John and Hildred M. (Osler) Coyle. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Following the war Tom worked a variety of jobs, including construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway project. For several years he worked for the Marcy Psychiatric center, later earning a BA and MA degree in English from SUNY Potsdam College. Tom was a substitute teacher in area schools for several years.

He had a passion for the game of basketball and was a talented player into his sixth decade. He was loved and will be missed by his family.
