John K. Tiernan., 83, of DeKalb Junction, died at United Helpers Maplewood Campus, July 7, 2010. Calling hours will be Sunday, July 11th, 2 -4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction.
A funeral mass will be Monday, July 12th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Canton, burial will follow at St. Henry’s Cemetery, DeKalb Junction.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine; sisters Mary Doreen Yerdon, Hermon, and Kathleen and Paul Chase, Vernon, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard and Leo Tiernan.
He was born July 4, 1927 in Hermon, the child of John and Adele Dowe Tiernan. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb School and was in the Army, from 1954 – 1956, earning the Good Conduct Medal. He married Joyce Morrow, November 16, 1946 at St. Henry’s Church Father Audetoff officiating, she died December 18, 1987, and then he married Geraldine M. France, December 6, 2003, at St. Henry’s Church, Father Jack Hunt officiating.
John worked as a carpenter for Murnane Building Contractors of Canton. He was a member of the Adirondack Carpenters Union, St. Henry’s Church, and St. Mary’s Church. He loved to dance, sing and gardening, especially vegetables.
