Funeral services for John "Jack" J. Calnon, 88, formerly of Madrid, and Massena will be held on Saturday March 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena. Friends and family may be received on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. John passed away on March 14, 2011 at the St. Regis Nursing Home.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Bert and wife Jane Calnon of East Syracuse, Patrick Calnon of Massena, and Paul Calnon of Norfolk; two daughters, Kathleen and husband George Dodge of Madrid, and Anne and husband Jeffrey Root of Massena; grandchildren Robert and wife Elizabeth Ann, Stephen and wife Amanda Calnon of Syracuse, Colleen and husband Justin Paquette of West Monroe, and John and David Root of Massena; great grandchildren Jack and Ryan Calnon and Aiden Calnon of Syracuse; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Calnon of Houston and Beth Calnon of Liverpool; and two nieces, Jane Jurgens and Patricia Allen and families, of Houston.
He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene, Robert, and Gerald; and a sister, Mary Calnon.
John was born on December 24, 1922 in Canton the son of John and Nona (Smith) Calnon. He graduated from Canton ATC in 1942. John married Helen Dolan on June 17, 1950 in Lake Placid. At one time John was employed with Prudential Insurance, and IDS, he retired from driving school bus for Massena Central School in 1986.
John was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Massena Elks Lodge, and a charter member of St. Lawrence NY ARC.
