John D. Cole, 69, of Route 37, Hammond, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at his home while under the care of his family and Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Born January 21, 1942 in Antwerp, he was the son of the late John M. Cole and Eleanor Fredenburg Cole, and graduated from Indian River High School in 1966.
He entered the United States Army in 1966 serving as a dog handler in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Mr. Cole worked on his family farm in Antwerp, was a meat cutter at Cunningham Meat Market, Oxbow, and was a truck driver for several businesses in the area.
He was an avid fisherman.
Surviving besides his mother, Eleanor Cole of Theresasix are 6 sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark and Veronica, Gouverneur, Robert and his companion, Carla Welser, Theresa, Shawn and his companion, Stacey Higby, Theresa, Joshua, Theresa, and Eric, John and Sarah, all of Washington; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa and Scott Morrow, Theresa, Chris and John Jewett, Hammond, and Natalie Cole, Watertown; four brothers and their wives, James and Lisa and Harold and Sharon, all of Gouverneur, Philip and Jennifer, DeKalb, and Paul and Kelly, Redwood; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Janice and Ronald Pugliese, Florida, Alice and Brian Draper, Adams, and Carol Maier, Syracuse; several grandchildren; and one great grandson.
Besides his father, a son, Joe died before him.
Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa. A meal and gathering of friends will continue at 4 p.m. at the Oxbow Fire Hall.
