Graveside services for 83 year old John B. “Jack” O’Brian, 392 Lakeshore Drive, Norwood, will be held in the spring at the Brookdale Cemetery. Mr. O’Brian passed away Saturday morning January 4, 2014 at his home.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce, Norwood; two sons, Jim and Sue O’Brian, Bedford, Indiana and Tim and Ame O’Brian, Eaton Rapids, Michigan; a daughter, Mary and Al Haught, Canton; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Terry and Jen, Erin, John, Phil, Matt and Megan; and his former daughter-in-law, Paula O’Brian.
He was born in Norfolk on September 30, 1930 to the late Bernard and Marjorie Cummings O’Brian. He married Joyce Puterbaugh on May 7, 1949. Jack was the 3rd generation to be born on the family farm in Norfolk. He was well known for his strong work ethic, working on the farm until transitioning to the General Motors plant in Massena where he worked in the furnace room and as a Hot Metal Truck Driver. He retired from GM in 1987 after almost 30 years of service. Jack was a member of the Brookdale Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Memorial Donations in Jack’s memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, the Potsdam Rescue Squad, Norwood Unit or to a charity of one’s choice.
