Mr. Joao Luis Salgado, 89, 48 Woodlawn Ave. passed away Monday afternoon, April 30, 2012 at his home, where he was under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Joao was born May 29, 1922 in Minko, Portugal, the son of the late Domingos and Ana Rodrigues Salgado. He moved to the United States in 1945. He served in the Portugese Merchant Marines doing construction.
Joao owned and operated Luso Concrete Contracting Corporation on Long Island retiring in the late 80’s. He moved with his family to Massena in 1976. He was a member of the Moose Lodge on Long Island and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. He also enjoyed flower gardening, watching the news, Discovery, CNN, and History channels on the television.
He survived by his children, Elizabeth Salgado of Massena, John and Debbie Salgado of Virginia, Paul Salgado of Virginia, Joshua Cohen of Selden, Long Island, David Salgado of Victor, Deborah and Jeffrey Smith of Central Square and Daniel and Diane Salgado, Tucson, AZ; and 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Cohen on September 14, 1994; and two brothers.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Kashorek, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
