Joan C. Taylor, 71, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at her home in Taberg, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice. A funeral service will be held today, Monday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Gregory Bailey, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, Gouverneur, officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Joan was born in Harrisville on June 22, 1940, the daughter of Willard and Dorothy Allen Lewis. Joan attended school in Harrisville and spent most of her time as a homemaker in raising her large family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and pets, fishing, watching wildlife, gardening, canning, and flowers. Joan also enjoyed going to the casino and keeping track of her daily life in her personal journals which she kept for over twenty years. She married Wilford Taylor on April 19, 1958 in Harrisville. Mr. Taylor passed away in 2007.
Joan is survived by her companion of 24 years, Lawrence Storms of Taberg; her seven daughters, Vicki Sharpe and her companion James Carter of Gouverneur, Lisa Young and her companion Doug Hall of Calcium, Connie Jones of Gouverneur, Wanda and Roy Fontenot of Fort Worth, TX, Peggy and Tim Lamere of Fort Worth, TX, Tammy and Fred Tharrett of Gouverneur, and Kelly and Brian Monroe of Alaska; her son, Wilford Taylor II of Gouverneur; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Bango, Patricia Lewis, and Barbara Frank, all of Harrisville; two brothers, David Lewis of Harrisville and James “Bob” Rose of California; and several nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by a son who died at birth; her parents; two infant brothers, Terry and Willard Lewis; and an infant sister, Jane Lewis.
