Mrs. Joan Babcock, 78, of 43 Brookview Drive, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday morning, November 23, 2011, at her home.
Joan was born September 30, 1933 in Smith Falls, Ontario, the daughter of the late John Donald and Margaret Doris Rowley Scott. She attended schools in Smith Falls. Joan first married Jack M. Wilkins on April 12, 1952 in Smith Falls, Ontario. He predeceased her on November 15, 1981. On June 30, 1984, she married Donald E. Babcock in Waddington with Rev. B.J. Norrix, officiating. Don predeceased her on August 30, 2011.
Joan was a homemaker, who had a great passion for art and painting. Her passion led her to teach others and do many paintings. Joan also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of the Louisville Community Church.
Joan is survived by her five children and their spouses, John and Chung Wilkins of San Antonio, TX, Steven Wilkins of Fredericksburg, VA, Heather and James McDonald of Massena, Kevin and Bridget Wilkins of Fredericksburg, VA and Garth and Kimberly Wilkins of Maiden, NC; and by several grandchildren and six great grandchildren;
In addition, Joan is survived by Don’s children, her stepchildren, Betty DeMeurers of Kelso, WA, Nancy and Pete McLaughlin of Massena, David and Janice Babcock of Norwood, Duncan and Angela Babcock of Connecticut, Deanna Halverson of Norfolk, and Peter and Donna Babcock of Norfolk; and a step-son-in-law, Ricky Hitsman of Massena.
She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce Kettles; and her brother, William Scott, both of Canada.
Friends may call Monday 10:00 – 12:00 noon at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon with Rev. Tom Nichols, officiating and Pastor Helen Beck will co-officiate. Burial will be held privately in Louisville Community Cemetery.
