Janis Griffith Walden, 67, loving wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly November 29, 2014 at her home in Avon Park, Florida, where she resided for the winter. In the summer, her residence was in Adams Center, NY.
Born June 10, 1947 in Massena, the daughter of Harold and Doris Griffith, Janis graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1964. On June 28, 1969, Janis married the love of her life, Fredrick Walden, at the Lisbon Methodist Church. After their marriage they moved to Watertown.
Janis enjoyed playing computer games, traveling with her husband in their motor home, bowling and crossword puzzles, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Janis worked at Canton ATC, Devitos Skidoo, then Devitos Resturant in Watertown. She worked as an office worker at K-Mart for 13 years until she became disabled.
She is survived by her husband, Fredrick (Fred); a son, Rick and his wife Heather; three grandchildren, Makayla, Cole and Slade; three brothers, James Griffith and his wife Judy, Wayne Griffith and his wife JoAnn, and Steven Griffith and his wife Sylvia; two sisters, Nancy “Griffith” Massia and her husband Hank, and Sandra “Grriffith” Mousaw and her husband Jerry; a brother in-law, Richard W. Walden, plus many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Harold and Doris; a brother, Lawrence; in-laws Clifford and Ann Walden; and sister in-law Sharon Walden.
Janis will always be remembered for her love of family and friends. She never had a harsh word for anyone and would do anything for anyone.
A memorial is planned for the spring. Donations may be given in her name to the South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Adams.
