POTSDAM -- Janice L. Knapp, age 81 and longtime resident of Potsdam, NY, passed away peacefully at her home in Orchard Park, NY during the afternoon of Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Born on January 30, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Heard S. Lowry, Jr. and Margaret Klein, Janice initially attended Ohio State University before relocating to Potsdam, NY in 1965.
She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1971 and later worked for the Social Services department of St. Lawrence County in Canton, NY.
Janice was a highly skilled quilt maker, hosting a local quilting group for many years, attending craft shows and leading a team 29 local persons to create the ‘Bicentennial Quilt’ for the Potsdam Museum Civic Center in 1976.
An avid reader, Janice had a love of language which, in later years, developed into a passion for writing novels and short stories; a collection of which was published in 1999.
A lover of pets, Janice also enjoyed the companionship of her many dogs throughout the years.
Janice was pre-deceased by her parents and by Vincent, her husband of thirty-four years.
She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Pond of Lexington, KY and her three sons: Derek (Jennifer) Knapp of Keeseville, NY; Colin Knapp of Orchard Park, NY; and Kyle Knapp of Morristown, NJ; as well as three grandchildren: Rachel, Alex and Kate.
Janice will be laid to rest beside her husband during a private burial in the Spring at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam.
