Mrs. Jane H. Barney, 77, of 150 Liberty Ave, passed away Sunday evening, April 22, 2012 at Massena Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She had recently been a resident of the St. Regis Nursing Home and been in failing health for the past several months.
Jane was born February 6, 1935 in Massena, the daughter of the late Francis A. and Mary Elizabeth Gonyeau LaClair. She graduated from Massena High School. On January 31, 1954, she married Leon F. Barney in Massena. Their marriage was later blessed at the Church of the Sacred Heart on July 5, 1954. Leon predeceased her on September 29, 1991.
Jane was a homemaker who devoted her life to her children and faith. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Jane enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching the Weather and EWTN Channels and spending time with her loving family.
Jane will be sadly missed by her 10 children, Margaret “Peggy” and Pete Salwa of South Lancaster, MA, Sandy Barney of Massena, Michael J. and Cheryl Barney of Massena, Leon Jr. and Laura Barney of Potsdam, Wayne J. and Tracy Barney, Jeffrey R. and Ann Barney, Lloyd “Andy” and Lisa Barney, all of Massena, Christopher J. and Cindy Barney of Orlando, FL, Paul John and Kim Barney, and Patrick and Darcy Barney, also of Massena; 31 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; her brother, Bernard and Eleanor LaClair of Massena; many nieces and nephews, including Kay Hillard and Ron Riley, both of Massena; and several cousins.
Jane was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth and Lloyd A. LaClair; and six sisters, Anna May LaClair, Margaret L. Savage, Gladys P. Woodard, Florence LaPlante, Grace Apenborn, and Ruth Irene Delosh.
Friends may call Tuesday (today) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. J. Michael Gaffney, celebrating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
