MASSENA – Services for James W. Long, 78, of Allen Street, will be held on Monday at noon (August 16, 2010) at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding.
Friends and family may call on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
James passed away Thursday morning on August 12, 2010 at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice.
James is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Julia, daughters, Mrs. Roger (Julia) LaShomb of Massena, Mrs. Patrick (Janet) Burke of Fishkill, N.Y.; a son, James H. of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving James W. Long are brothers, Timothy and wife Debbie of Massena, Joseph W. and wife Diane of Aurora, N.Y.; sisters, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Post and Mrs. Jeffery (Martha) Slack both of Massena, Mrs. Craig (Nora) Maguire of Baldwinsville; many nieces and nephews.
James was born in Waterloo, N.Y., the son of James A. and Esther (Ward) Long.
James graduated from Massena High School, attended Niagara University and later Clarkson College.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he returned to Massena.
He married Julia Dumoulin October 20, 1956 at St. Felix - de- Cavalios Church in Cornwall, Ont.
He was an electrician at GM Powertrain and a proud member of the IBEW. He retired from and GM and pursued many different interests.
He was an avid reader, and enjoyed working with stained glass and wood.
James was a member of the Lake St. Lawrence Yacht Club since 1964. James's passion for sailing was transcended to his extended family.
