James J. Whalen, 72, of Star Lake, passed away on April 17, 2012 at Clifton-Fine Hospital.
There will be a memorial mass on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Decker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Fine. Arrangements are with French Family Funeral Home, Star Lake.
James was born on September 2, 1939 in Ellenburg, to the late George and Frances (DeLong) Whalen. He attended school in Ellenburg. He worked all of his life as a landscaper, working at Canton ATC and landscaping in Rochester, but worked for many years at Nickelodeon Landscape in Fulton.
James married Elaine (Thiverge) Law and the couple has been married for more than 40 years. Jim loved being outdoors and fishing, but most of all; he really had a strong love for his dogs.
James is survived by his wife, Elaine of Watertown; a step son, Frederick Law of Gouverneur; a step daughter, Linda Parmeter of Hermon; a brother, Michael Whalen of Ellenburg; two sisters, Blanche Gibeault of Marcellus and Helen Madan of Plattsburgh; a close nephew, Daniel Harris of Ogdensburg; a close friend who looked after him, Tim Brown of Star Lake; granddaughters, Lynette and Michelle Daniels; a grandson, James Law; and several other step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Roland and William Whalen; and two sisters, Mildred Curry and Mary Harris.
