James “Francis” Dean, 77, of Russell

Funeral services for James “Francis” Dean, 77, of County Rte 24, will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Pastor Donna Doig officiating.  Burial will follow in Beech Plains Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Francis was born March 16, 1935, son of the late, James E. and Ella (Coller) Dean. He attended Stone School in Pierrepont and graduated from Knox Memorial in 1953.  He later served in the Army Reserves, Canton as an M.P.

On May 1, 1954 he married his beloved Dorothy Marie Laddison at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton with Rev. Eels as celebrant.  Dorothy died in 2002.

Francis worked for J&L Steel, Reynolds Metal Corp. and Newton Falls Paper Mill before retiring from SUNY Canton in 1993 as Senior Stationary Engineer.

He was a member of Black Brook Hunting Club, past member of Blue Mountain Lake Hunting Club, member of Russell Volunteer Fire Dept (Fire Police), the NRA and the North American Hunting and Fishing Club.

He will be remembered by his two children and their spouses, Charles and Susan Dean of Pierrepont and Debra A. Dean-Blackmer of Russell; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  He was also predeceased by an infant sister Virginia.
