J. Herbert Brennan, 87, formerly of Torrington, died Friday, April 15, 2011, at Canton Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam. He was the husband of the late Eileen (Hextall) Brennan.
Mr. Brennan was born in Skowhegan, Maine on December 30, 1923, son of the late Edward J. and E. Mae (Curtis) Brennan. A long time resident of Torrington, CT, he moved to Canton in 2007. He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran and was a retired Accountant with the Waterbury Buckle Co., retiring in 1987 with twenty-two years of service. Mr. Brennan was a graduate of the Hartford Institute of Accounting and the Culinary Institute of America.
He was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church and served as a Treasurer, Vestryman, Lay Reader and was a Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Brennan was a past Master, former Treasurer and fifty year member of Seneca Lodge No. 55, A.F. & A.M., past patron and fifty year member of Pierpont Chapter 49, Order of Eastern Star, life member of the American Legion, a Emeritus Life Associate of the Institute of Management Accountants, a life member of the American Cribbage Congress, a member of the Sphinx Temple Shriners, Torrington Lodge of Elks and AARP. He loved singing, dancing, walking and enjoyed playing Cribbage.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Brennan of Torrington; a daughter, Barbara B. Beekman of Canton, as well as his four grandchildren, Erica and Christian Beekman, and Christopher and Catherine Brennan.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Prospect Street, Torrington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, from 4 - 8 p.m at the Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington
