POTSDAM -- Iris R. Anable, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019 at the Highland Nursing Home.
Iris was born October 7, 1932 in Massena, the daughter of the late Charles and Marguerite (Silmser) Raymo. She graduated from Massena High School in 1950 and attended Potsdam State for two years. She married Charles Anable on August 20, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church, Massena, with Rev. John Pendergast, officiating. He predeceased her on April 26, 2007.
She worked for New York Telephone Company from 1953 to 1955. In 1957, she went back to work for them in their Ogdensburg office until 1961. After moving to Potsdam in 1968, she was employed with Dumont Builders, Potsdam New Channels, JC Penney and Vivlamore Plumbing. In 1997, she started work at Sunfeather Natural Soap Company, retiring in 2005. She also volunteered for many years for the Potsdam Public Library, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Orchestra of Northern New York, and the Potsdam Neighborhood Center.
She is survived by her son, Matthew and his wife, Frankie; two granddaughters, Stephanie Anable and Elizabeth and Pat Bedore; her great grandchildren, Madelynn and Harper Anable and Henry and Teddy Bedore; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant son who was stillborn in 1956 and her sister, Jacqueline Brefka.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Parishville on September 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Hamel, officiating.
