Graveside services for 91-year old Mrs. Irene C. Rhodes will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Moundhill Cemetery in Nicholville with Rev. James Barnes officiating. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Moundhill Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 73, Nicholville, NY 12965. Mrs. Rhodes died July 3, 2011 at the Massena Memorial Hospital. She had been a resident of the Highland Nursing Home in Massena, and formerly of Nicholville, and Potsdam.
Survivors include a son, David and his wife Carol Rhodes of St. Regis Falls; two daughters, Christine and her husband Gary Cole of Lawrenceville, and Marlene and her husband Wayne Peck of Phoenix, AZ; one son-in-law, Roger Hazen of Hannawa Falls; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald and his wife Ann Crinklaw of Nicholville.
Her husband Guy Rhodes; a daughter, Nadene Hazen; an infant son, Donald Myron Rhodes; one infant grandson, Kevin Hazen; and a brother, Elkanah Crinklaw predeceased her.
She was born in the town of Lawrence on June 23, 1920 the daughter of Myron and Mildred (Turner) Crinklaw. She graduated from North Lawrence High School in 1937 with a Regents diploma. Irene married Guy Rhodes on May 11, 1940 in Nicholville at her parents’ home. Irene and Guy owned and operated Rhodes Restaurant in Nicholville for 32 years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Regis Falls Sportsman’s Club, and the North Lawrence Grange chapter 797, and the Potsdam United Methodist Church.
