Herbert Conto, age 58, of Patterson Street, Ogdensburg passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Arrangements are entrusted to Frary Funeral Home. There will be no funeral services or calling hours.
Herbert is survived by his son, Herbert of Ogdensburg; a sister, Joan, and her husband, Dennis Harris, of Russell; two brothers, Charles and his wife, Naomi, of Lucas, IA and John and his wife, Janet, of Dover Plains; a brother-in-law, Tom Wing and sister-in-law, Barbara Conto; a step daughter, Tabath Shenk; two grandchildren, Shyann Shenk and Jeffrey McCarthy; and several nieces and nephews and close friend, Sally Wing.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly Pelkey and Sue Wing; and four brothers, James Conto, George, Richard and Patrick Condon.
He was born on June 17, 1955, in Massena, the son of Charles and Hattie McFaul Conto. He graduated from Webutuck High School and then went on to join the United States Army from 1976 to 1977 when he was honorably discharged. After leaving the military he then went to Canton ATC where he went to school for mortuary science. He later went to work at the Wassaic Development Center in Amenia, NY and retired in 2013 after 25 years of service.
Herbert enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also belonged to the CSEA and American Legion Post 1949.
