Helen A. Santamont, of 9 Laurel Terrace, passed away on April 21, 2014 at Massena Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday April 24, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Louisville with Rev. Donald J. Manfred officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Helen was born on December 23, 1922 in Norfolk, NY to Stephen and Theresa (Swartzkopf) Vari. She attended Norfolk Schools and served as a WAC during WWII. She married Howard Joseph Santamont on April 7, 1947 at St. Lawrence Rectory in Louisville with the Rev. Wilfred Nugent officiating.
Helen enjoyed socializing with her friends and family. She loved her Church and practiced her strong faith. One of her favorite places to visit was the "Isle of LaMotte".
Helen enjoyed bingo, cooking, cleaning and shopping. She especially loved her three great grandsons. Prior to moving to Massena she was a communicant of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Louisville and active member of the Altar Rosary Society.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Deborah A DeLuca; and husband Ronald of Heuvelton; a son, Wayne J. Santamont and wife Barbara of Waddington; grandchildren, Dominic and Myra DeLuca of Camillus, Jonathon and Kristin Santamont of Adamstown, Maryland and Brooke Santamont of Canton; and three great grandsons, Gino and Joseph DeLuca and Nolan Santamont.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Joseph in 1997; her brothers, Stephen, Eleck, Joseph, Louis and a sister Rose. Helen was a member of the Massena and Akwesasne Senior Citizens Clubs.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Massena, St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Louisville, or Akwesasne Senior Citizens Club.
