Helen Janet Valois Murphy died on September 26th at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Bedford, NH under the excellent care of the Solana Alzheimer’s unit with her family close by.
Surviving Janet are her son, Michael and his wife Jane of Manchester, NH; two grandsons, Casey and Shane; and several nieces and nephews.
Her sister, Ruth Mereau, predeceased her.
Janet was born October 10, 1925 in Waddington, the daughter of Hildage and Helen Short Valois. She graduated from Waddington Central School and then from Canton ATI, receiving an Associate’s degree in Dietary Science. During World War II she was mobilized and went to work at the New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. Janet moved back to the North Country and went to work for Verizon (Bell Telephone Pioneer) in Potsdam where she worked for over 25 years first as an operator and in the business office until her retirement. Janet was married to John Edward Murphy.
Janet attended St. Mary's Church, Canton. She was very active in ALANON and was recognized as a pillar of the program in the North Country. Janet’s true joy was her family, especially her grandsons. She also loved to work on crafts and cooking. She was noted for always being willing to help anyone in need.
A Funeral Mass for Janet V. Murphy, of Bedford, NH formerly of Waddington, Potsdam and Canton will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 3rd at St. Mary's Church, Waddington with Rev. Msgr. Robert L. Lawler Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery, Waddington. The family will be greeting visitors at the Phillips Memorial Home, Waddington from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, September 2.
