Mrs. Helen (Burke) Paladino, 81, formerly of Ogdensburg, passed away with her loving family by her side on Monday, October 25, 2010, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

Helen is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Bill Beck of Longwood, Fla.; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Paladino of New Hartford; four beloved grandchildren, Kristen, Amanda and Michael “Ben” Paladino, and Ryan Beck; three great grandchildren, Michael, Nicole and Jenna; and also several nieces and nephews, including two nieces who were like daughters, Kathleen Dylis and Mary Burke Pritchard.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and in 1995, her big brother, Harold M. Burke.

Helen was born in Ogdensburg, Nov. 1, 1928, the daughter of Michael and Ethel (Blackmer) Burke. She attended St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg until her family moved to Utica.

Helen was a 1946 graduate of Utica Free Academy and 1949 graduate of the Faxton Hospital School of Nursing.

For several years, she was the Head Nurse of the newborn nursery at St. Luke’s Hospital.

On April 27, 1957, Helen was joined in marriage to James “Ben” Paladino. Helen and Ben enjoyed forty-five loving years together until his death on Oct. 30, 2002. They will now be reunited in Heaven.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 4th floor at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care of Helen during her illness.
