Helen B. Murray, 97, formerly of Ogdensburg and Massena. Graveside services for Helen Mary Brunette Murray, age 97 a former resident of Ogdensburg and Massena, will be held on Friday, June 4th at 12:30 pm, at the family plot in St Mary's Cemetery, Ogdensburg with Deacon Francis Bateman officiating. Helen died on April 28, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham, NC. Local arrangements are being handled by the Fox and Murray Funeral Home.

Helen was born on September 11, 1912, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Anna Mae (Badger) Brunette. She was educated in Catholic schools in Ogdensburg and graduated from Potsdam Normal School (now State University of New York at Potsdam) in 1933. Before her marriage, in 1936, to Philip E. Murray of Winthrop, she taught in one-room school houses in rural St Lawrence County. After her marriage, she taught Native American children on the St Regis Indian Reservation in Hogansburg for several years before moving with her husband to Massena, where she taught in various schools, completing her career as a third grade teacher at Nightengale Elementary School.

Following Mrs. Murray's retirement from teaching and Mr. Murray's retirement from the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) the couple moved to Bradenton, FL and lived there for a number of years. Mr. Murray died in 1987, and Mrs. Murray relocated to Durham in 2003, to be near her family. She lived at an independent living facility, until failing health necessitated a move to Hillcrest in August, 2009. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception parish in Durham, NC. She was a Democrat. Surviving is her son Thomas W. Murray & his wife Sandra of Durham, NC; a daughter Anne M. Hunter of Latham, NY; 6 grandchildren Shawn Love of St Paul MN, Kim and Craig Murray of Candor NY, Win Murray of Western Springs IL, Catherine Soffronoff of Silver Spring MD, Elizabeth Hunter of Latham NY and 9 great grandchildren. Mrs. Murray was predeceased by her husband Philip E. Murray; a son Philip G Murray and a brother George Brunette.
