Harriet “Mae” Siebels, age 93, of Fowler, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.
Calling hours will be on Friday, December 17th from 5-7 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Orville Eacker officiating. Burial will follow at West Fowler Cemetery.
Harriet was born on December 26, 1916 in Lemaster, PA to Jay Luther and Nannie (Mellott) Weagley. She attended Rutgers University Teachers College in Columbia and received her BS degree in Nursing at Trenton State in 1963.
Harriet married William J. Siebels Sr. on August 18, 1940 at the Lutheran Church Parsonage in Sea Girt, NJ with Rev. Adolph Holthauson officiating. William passed away on January 23, 1981. Harriet was the social service director in E. Brunswick, NJ where she worked from 1957 until her retirement in 1995. She had also instructed Nursing Arts at Middlesex General Hospital School of Nursing at Trenton State. She was the Department Chairperson for school health service at E. Brunswick, NJ public schools for over 30 years. She lived in E. Brunswick, NJ moving to Gouverneur, NY in 1995. Harriet was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Brunswick, NJ. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Harriet is survived by her son and his wife, William J. and Tina Siebels of Gouverneur; a daughter and her husband, Nancy M. and Alex MacKinnon of Gouverneur; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and four brothers, Raymond, John, Karl and Don Weagley.
