A Mass of Resurrection for Harold D Thompson, Sr., 74, of Chase Mills, will be held Tuesday ( July 13, 2010) at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Massena, with Rev. Michael J Gaffney officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Louisville.
Mr. Thompson died Thursday evening (July 8, 2010) at Canton-Potsdam Hospital where he had been a patient since June 22, 2010.
Friends and family may be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.
Surviving Harold D. Thompson is his wife of 50 years, Frances; two sons and a daughter, Harold D. Jr. of Massena, Michael M. of Chase Mills, and Julie and husband Scott McGregor of Fitchburg, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Susie Thompson, of Massena; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, Francis Thompson of Brick, Mass., Alma Houimel, Ogdensburg, and Marguerite Higgins, New Hartford; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, George, on May 20, 2010; two brothers, Howard and Lloyd; and a sister, Blanche Colvin.
Born November 16, 1935 in Malone, he was the son of Bernard and Mary ( Murphy) Thompson.
He married Frances Patterson on July 16, 1960 in St Mary's Church, Canton.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until 1974 when he was discharged for medical reasons.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
