Gwendolyn A. Ashlaw, 80, of the Highland Nursing Home, passed away on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at the Massena Memorial Home, where she had been admitted on Feb. 12.
Gwendolyn was born on July 8, 1930 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Glenn and Niomi Spears. She married James A. Ashlaw on March 15, 1952. He predeceased her on Sept. 7, 1986.
She worked with Meals on Wheels and was a caregiver. She enjoyed getting together with her family on holidays and birthdays and loved to play cards for hours at a time.
Gwendolyn is survived by a sister, Marjorie Wilmot, Massena; three daughters, Joan Randall and her husband Doug, Potsdam, Patty Ashlaw, Norwood, and Trudy Hughes, Layton, Utah; three sons, Mike Ashlaw, Missouri, Arnold Ashlaw and wife Cathy, Massena, and Oliver Ashlaw, Massena; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A son, Gary Ashlaw, predeceased her on Feb. 12, 2001
At her request, there are no calling hours. Spring internment will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Parishville.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Inc.
