Gladys Keith Sandwick, 87, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Calling hours are Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Hermon with Rev. William Hart, pastor of the Hermon United Methodist Church officiating.
Gladys was born in Newark Valley on April 30, 1923, the daughter of Jesse and Gertrude Stimming Keith. Gladys graduated from Newark Valley High School and received a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in Nursing. She was employed as a clinical nurse instructor at Canton ATC and as a nurse for the Headstart Preschool program in Gouverneur.
Gladys married John “Jack” Sandwick on October 21, 1944 in Newark Valley.
She enjoyed knitting, cross-country skiing, canoeing, gardening, and was a member of the Hermon United Methodist Church.
Gladys is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Jack; four children, Jane and Ricky Williams, John and Laura Sandwick Jr., Roger and Lorraine Sandwick, and Barbara and Ron Clough; six grandchildren, Sarah Sandwick and her husband Jerry Potter, Isaac Sandwick, Nathan and Michelle Clough, and Matt and Emma Williams; two sisters, Mildred Bohnet, Norma and Tim Cole; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Ruth Kortkamp; and a brother, Harold Keith.
