AUBURN – George P. Nemo, 68, of Auburn, and formerly of Norfolk, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
George was born in Norfolk, the son of the late George and Helen Despaw Nemo and had resided in Auburn for many years.
He was a graduate of Norwood Norfolk Central School.
In 1961, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving his country during the Vietnam War for six years. Upon being honorably discharged, he was a member of the American Legion in Norfolk, the Pioneer's Organization and a member of the Communications Workers of America.
He was employed by Verizon in Auburn for many years working as a cable maintenance technician.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Nemo, of Auburn; four sons, George C. Nemo and his wife, Jennifer, of Hampton, Va., Craig A. Nemo, of Syracuse, James L. Nemo and Chad A. Nemo, both of Auburn; one brother, Stephen Nemo and his wife, Iona, of Florida; five sisters, Susan Jochumb and her husband, Jack of Norfolk, Elizabeth Lautenschlager and her husband, Fred, of New Port Richie, Fla., Shirley Nemo, of Norfolk, Linda Nemo, of Maryland, Sandra Molina, of Arizona; eight grandchildren, George M., Justin C., Quinian S., Alyshia B., Stephanie G., Colson J., Breanna H., and Alexandria Nemo; friend of the family, Sierra Green; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn, with a funeral service immediately following at 3 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, Syracuse Office, 356 N. Midler Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206 in memory of George P. Nemo.
