George “Jud” L. Dale, age 74, of Gouverneur passed away at home on Monday, October 18, 2010 under the care of his wife and Hospice.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. His memorial service will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m. with lay minister, Judy Sibley, officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Holley NY, on Saturday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m.
George was born on April 19, 1936 in Antwerp. He is the son of the late Gerald and Doris (Yaddow) Dale. He attended area schools until enlisting into the United States Air Force in 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in 1957.
He married Mary J. Blair on November 7, 1959. The couple lived in Holley, NY from 1966 until returning to Gouverneur in 1998. Above all things, George loved his wife and family. He had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed spending time on the water as well as camping, hunting, and fishing. After retirement George spent his time caring for their miniature horses and donkey and relaxing with his dog, Rufus. He enjoyed music, played guitar, banjo, and bass guitar. He was a member of the country band, Al and the Country Boys.
George retired from Eastman-Kodak in Rochester as a maintenance worker and electrician. He had previously worked for the Natural Dam paper mill.
His survivors include his wife, Mary; his daughter and her husband, Jean M. and Reynold Klatt of Gaines; two sons, James L. Dale and his companion, Marge Newbould and Michael G. Dale and his wife, Cindy, all of Holley; his sister and her husband, Diane and Roger Hutton of Gouverneur; and a brother and his wife, Donald and Penny Dale of North Carolina; eight grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, David Dale.
