Gale W. Powers, born January 28, 1933 in Pierrepont, son of Bower E. Powers and Anna Margaret Forward of Pierrepont. Gale passed away at his home on March 7th in the town of Pierrepont while under the care of his family and Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. He married Agnes M. Blanchard of West Potsdam, June 16, 1956 in West Potsdam. He attended Canton Central High School, Class of 1950. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway from 1954 to 1956. On October 9, 1956 he was drafted to the military where he was stationed in Korea. He served 2 years and 4 years reserves. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in Lyons, New Jersey, 1961 to 1963 and transferred to Sunmount, Tupper Lake, from 1963 to 1979 as an Aid Attendant, then promoted to a Registered Nurse after receiving his R.N. Diploma in 1973 at St. Lawrence State Hospital. Worked at Altona Correctional Facility as a RN from 1984 to 1986 and then for 8 more years at Riverside Correctional Center retiring in 1994.
Gale is survived by his wife, Agnes Powers Pierrepont; daughter Amy Powers; five granddaughters, Arijanna Powers and Justine Beutel of Renssealer Falls; son Timothy and Lisa Powers; granddaughters Kayla Powers and Sierra Powers of Clare; and granddaughter Kendra Barkley of Ogdensburg.
Gale is also survived by his sister, Helen Barstow of Canton; brother Bower “Jr.” and Jane Powers of Pierrepont; brother in law Lawrence LaPoint of Russell; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by brother, Robert Powers; sister Ruth Anderson; brother John Powers; sister Betty Jean LaPoint; and two granddaughters Ayla Powers and Kelly Beutel.
Gale enjoyed hunting, boating, swimming and roller skating. He was a dedicated walker, whether it was Walmart, The Mall or Route 68.
